Here’s what happened when I asked ChatGPT to analyse my colours
The results and how they’ve influenced my wardrobe colour palette
As someone who gravitates towards neutrals and timeless, minimalist pieces, I’ve always been on the fence about getting my colours analysed. While I totally see the value for those feeling unsure about their wardrobe, I’ve always felt confident in knowing what suits me and what I enjoy wearing. So, colour analysis wasn’t something I gave much thought to—until recently. After chatting with my lovely friend Rae (@styledlife), she mentioned that a few of her colleagues had used ChatGPT to analyse their colours. Naturally, I was intrigued to see if my results would align with the shades I already love and wear.
You’ve probably heard of colour analysis before: it’s that system that breaks down your most flattering shades into four "seasonal" categories—Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. It’s meant to help you figure out which tones bring out your best features and which ones might wash you out.

So, I uploaded a photo and asked ChatGPT to do its thing.
Here’s the photo I uploaded…
The Results:
First off, let’s be clear. This wasn’t a professional colour analysis with a trained stylist holding up swatches against my face. This was a digital assistant looking at a single selfie. So, how did it do?
After scanning the photo, ChatGPT came back with two possibilities based on the warmth of my skin tone: I might be either a Spring or an Autumn.
For Spring, it said I’d suit warm pastels, corals, and soft browns. Think peach, camel, and aqua.
For Autumn, it suggested rich, earthy tones—olive, mustard, rust, and forest green.
Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how closely the results aligned with the colors I already wear. The warm, earthy tones it suggested—like deep greens, browns, and muted rusts—are exactly what I’ve been drawn to for a while now. Of course, there was one exception: black. But let's be real, I’m not giving up black anytime soon! That said, the analysis did get me thinking about how I use black in my wardrobe and how I might soften it with some warmer tones for a bit more balance.
Interestingly, it also nudged me to consider shades I’ve typically avoided, like warm pastels. I’ve always shied away from these, thinking they didn’t suit me, but now I’m more curious about incorporating a subtle hint of peach or camel here and there. It’s a small step out of my comfort zone, but I’m intrigued to see how it could freshen up my looks.
Here are some recent outfits that align to the results…

The Verdict
While I’m not tossing out my black and gray staples anytime soon, the experiment did make me realise that exploring colour (which I’ve been wanting to explore for a little while) doesn’t have to mean overhauling my entire wardrobe. Instead, it’s about little tweaks here and there—a new scarf, a warm-toned bag, or maybe even swapping my white tee for a soft peach. And let’s be honest, as someone who’s all about slow fashion and outfit repeating, adding a splash of seasonal colour here and there could be a fun way to keep my staples feeling fresh.
It also made me rethink how colour analysis might fit into a minimalist wardrobe. You don’t need to drape yourself in head-to-toe colours you’ve never worn before. Instead, take small steps—maybe start with accessories or shoes. And remember, it’s your style journey; take what works and leave what doesn’t.
Final Thoughts:
Did ChatGPT nail my colours? Maybe. Maybe not. But what I found even more valuable was that it’s encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, even just a little. Over the years, as I've honed my personal style, I've naturally gravitated towards colors that suit me best—those warm, earthy tones have made their way into my wardrobe almost instinctively. If you're struggling with your wardrobe and want to feel more confident in what you wear, colour analysis could be the perfect way to start. And if you’re not ready to invest in a specialist just yet, using AI is a great way to dip your toes in and get started! Experimenting with your style doesn’t have to be intimidating—you can take small risks, like adding a new colour, and see where it takes you. Who knows? You might just surprise yourself.
Keep an eye on my Instagram to see how I incorporate some of these findings into my everyday outfits! Have you ever tried a colour analysis—AI-driven or otherwise? I'd love to hear your experience—let me know in the comments below!
