10 Winter Pieces I Can’t Stop Reaching For
My cold-weather capsule heroes: worn, loved, and layered on repeat.
Hey friends,
Let’s talk winter wardrobes.
Every year I seem to come back to the same truth: the fewer pieces I rely on, the better I feel. When the mornings are chilly, the days are full, and my energy isn’t always on tap (hello perimenopause, school runs, and work-life juggle), I don’t want to overthink my outfit. I want go-tos. The kind that work every time. The ones that let me get on with the day but still feel like me.
So today I’m sharing the 10 pieces I’m truly living in this winter — the ones on high repeat that are earning their keep.
Let’s get into it:
⸻
These are the shoes I throw on when I want to feel a bit more polished, but still be comfortable. I love how they instantly elevate denim, and they’ve got just the right mix of vintage charm and Parisian polish. They’ve softened beautifully with wear — and look just as good with chunky knits as they do with a tailored coat.
⸻
My not-too-heavy, not-too-light, throw-it-on-and-go coat. It’s classic and clean but has that relaxed oversized shape that works with chunky layers underneath. I reach for this constantly — especially over jeans and sneakers. The neutral tone means it goes with everything.
⸻
This knit is pure joy. It’s slouchy without drowning me, and the ribbed texture makes it feel just that little bit special. On days I need a warm hug in clothing form, this is the one. Bonus: the neutral tone fits seamlessly into the rest of my wardrobe.
⸻
Still my MVP jeans. The barrel shape just works for my body — roomy, flattering, modern. I know not everyone’s into them, but once you get the proportions right, they feel so right. I pair them with everything from tees and loafers to knits and boots.
⸻
5. Assembly Label Sadie Wool Coat
Think: effortlessly chic but wearable. It’s slightly more structured than the Everlane one, so I tend to wear it when I’m heading into town or meeting a friend for coffee. The tailored feel adds instant polish, even over leggings or denim.
⸻
I hunted these down and have zero regrets. They’re classic but with just the right amount of edge — and that off-white ecru shade makes them feel softer than a bright white pair. I love styling them with relaxed trousers, barrel jeans, or peeking out from under a long coat to keep things casual, cool, and a little bit unexpected.
⸻
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve worn this. Layered under a knit, tucked into jeans, worn on its own with a scarf and coat — it’s just a solid base layer. It washes well and holds its shape. Honestly, it’s my secret weapon for making everything else in my wardrobe work harder.
⸻
Lightweight but warm, soft but not too precious — this one’s in weekly rotation. The slightly cropped cut works so well with high-waisted trousers, and the alpaca blend means it’s cozy without being bulky. A real layering dream.
⸻
For the days I want to ditch denim but still feel pulled together. These are comfy but elevated. They have structure but aren’t stiff. I style them with sneakers for school runs and swap in a loafer if I’m heading out to work from a café. They’re a winter workhorse.
⸻
10. Jo Mercer Black Leather Boots
These are my “I need to feel grounded” shoes. They go with absolutely everything — from jeans to dresses — and they’re practical enough for wet weather, but still feel sleek and city-ready. The almond toe keeps them flattering, and they’re walkable for hours.
⸻
The Verdict:
Winter can be style limbo — too cold for the cute dresses, too warm for head-to-toe wool some days. But these 10 pieces? They’re making it all feel easier.
They mix and match.
They’re comfortable and considered.
They make getting dressed — and getting out the door — so much smoother.
