Everything I wore last week | 28
Wrapping up the final week of January outfits—a double denim look I absolutely loved and a step-by-step guide on how I tackled Thursday when I had no idea what to wear!
I can’t quite believe I’m writing this week’s Substack and it’s already February! January flew by, and last week was no exception. The week kicked off with a public holiday spent at our friend’s BBQ on a scorching 41-degree day—such a fun way to wrap up the month!
The rest of the week was a blur of prepping the kids for the new school year and getting back into the morning routine. With so much going on, I found myself really struggling to put outfits together (which doesn’t happen often!). For anyone else feeling the same, I’ve shared a few things that helped me get dressed on those tricky days.
So, let’s dive into ‘Everything I Wore Last Week’!
MONDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = LINEN MINI SHIFT DRESS ➕ SANDALS
Outfit Details… Monday was Australia Day here, and while we don’t celebrate, it’s always a great chance to spend the day off work catching up with close friends! The weather was all over the place—41 degrees, storms, and plenty of wind—but we made the most of it with a BBQ and loved watching the kids run wild outside!
I wore my Assembly Label black linen shift mini dress (this piece has been such a workhorse in my wardrobe!), styled with an old pair of black sandals I scored secondhand, my Brixton fedora hat (so glad I rediscovered this gem!), and to add a little fun and texture to the outfit I grabbed with leopard print crossbody bag to pull it all together.
TUESDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = WHITE POPLIN MAXI SKIRT ➕CROPPED LINEN TOP ➕ DENIM JACKET ➕ SANDALS
Outfit Details: For a day in the office, I rewore one of my favourite recent finds—the Assembly Label white poplin maxi skirt. I scored it in the sale just before Christmas for just $40 and couldn’t be happier with it! If you’re considering this skirt, I’d recommend sizing down, as I bought the size below and t fits perfectly. I paired it with my moss-green linen cropped top, a combination I’ve reached for before because it just works. I added my oversized denim jacket, brown sandals, and my chocolate-brown suede tote bag to finish the outfit.
WEDNESDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = BARREL JEANS ➕WHITE TEE ➕ DENIM SHACKET ➕ SANDALS
Outfit Details…I had to head into the office for a few meetings, with my two eldest kids in tow (6 weeks of summer holidays and the only day we’ve had no childcare!). They seemed to enjoy visiting mum’s work, though!
When it comes to outfits, I usually start with one item I really want to wear and build from there. On Wednesday, that item was my Everlane barrel jeans. I know barrel jeans can be polarising, but I’m such a fan of this style and always rave about how good these Everlane ones are. I paired them with a freshly laundered white tee—because if you’ve been following along, you’ll know how much I love a jeans-and-white-tee combo. To pull it all together, I added a relaxed denim shacket and black wedge sandals, creating an easy yet office-appropriate look.
THURSDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = JEANS ➕VEST ➕ LEATHER JACKET ➕ SANDALS
Outfit Details…Thursday was a big day in our household—my two eldest kids went back to school after the summer holidays, and to top it off, my eldest started high school! I still can’t wrap my head around how I have a high schooler already. It feels like just two minutes ago he was a baby!
Between the whirlwind of organising uniforms, bags, lunchboxes, and laptops, I found myself completely indecisive about what to wear. Honestly, this rarely happens to me—I usually have an outfit or at least a piece in mind before I even open my wardrobe. But Thursday? Not so much.
If you’ve ever been in a similar situation, here’s what helped me pull it together:
First, I went for jeans. They’re my go-to when I need something that’s easy to style and feels comfortable. Then, I thought about the occasion—work—and reached for a top that felt a bit dressier to balance the casualness of the jeans. After a bit of back and forth, I landed on my linen Dissh vest.
Next came the shoes, and while I wavered between a few options, comfort won out in the end. I chose my rose gold Saltwater sandals—they’re practical yet add a little something extra to an outfit.
Even with that, it didn’t feel quite finished, so I tried on a few jackets until I landed on an old grey leather jacket I’ve had for years. It brought just the right amount of edge to the outfit, and the grey tone softened the black vest nicely.
In the end, for an outfit I felt completely stumped by when I started, it all came together! What do you think?
FRIDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = WIDE LEG JEANS ➕ BLACK TOP ➕ DENIM SHACKET ➕ SANDALS
Outfit Details…I had the day off on Friday, and for the first time in weeks, it was just me and my littlest one. We hopped on a train and headed into the city to check out the Yayoi Kusama exhibition (if you’re Melbourne-based, I can’t recommend it enough—it was absolutely brilliant!).
Before heading out, I’d been pinning relaxed double-denim looks to Pinterest and was excited to recreate the vibe. I wore my Arket Cloud wide-leg jeans with my denim shacket, which has been on heavy rotation lately. To add a slightly dressier touch (and break up all the denim), I layered a black square-neck ribbed top I picked up from a local consignment store.
For accessories, I went with my brown sandals, a large tote bag to carry all the essentials, and a pair of sunnies. The whole look came together effortlessly, and I loved how cool and laid-back it felt. What do you think—are you into the double-denim look too?
SATURDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = DENIM SHORTS ➕ TEE ➕ SANDALS
Outfit Details…This wasn’t one of my favorite looks of the week, but it was super practical and comfortable for a day filled with chores and errands—so not much thought went into it. That being said, I could have stayed in my PJs to clean the house, so this was definitely a step up!
My 90s-style denim shorts are always a fail-safe option, and paired with my go-to black tee from Uniqlo, it was an easy, no-brainer combo. I finished the look with my ultra-comfy Tevas and a pair of sunnies, and I was set for the day. Not the most exciting outfit, but it did the job!
SUNDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = TANK➕SHORTS ➕ SANDALS
Outfit details…Sunday was an absolute scorcher, so I needed something to keep me cool during the few minutes I wasn’t hiding under the air-conditioning! While sorting through clothes to sell a couple of weeks ago, I came across these Country Road shorts. They’d been on my ‘to sell’ pile since I hadn’t worn them in 5 or 6 years, but I decided to give them one last try—and I’m so glad I did! They fit perfectly and they were very similar to a pair I’d been thinking about purchasing! .mI paired them with a simple black tank, brown sandals, and my chocolate suede tote bag. I loved how this look came together—proof that sometimes it’s worth shopping your own wardrobe!
That’s a wrap on this week’s Substack! Thank you so much for reading and following along—I hope it’s sparked some outfit inspiration for the week ahead. If you know someone who could use a little effortless, repeatable style inspo, feel free to share this Substack with them. Your support means the world!
Until next time!
