Everything I wore last week | 31
A week of contrasts—freezing one minute, sweltering the next! From celebrating my mum’s birthday to relying on my go-to sandals 80% of the time, it was a fun one for getting dressed!
Hello lovely readers!
How is it that time of the week again? Time to round up everything I wore last week!
Melbourne’s weather was all over the place—freezing one minute, boiling the next—making outfit planning a real challenge. The cooler days had me reaching for layers I hadn’t worn in a while, but my trusty Assembly Label sandals still got plenty of wear, adding just the right touch of summer.
Friday was extra special as we celebrated my mum’s birthday—a perfect excuse to dress up a little and enjoy a family outing!
Alright, let’s dive into Everything I Wore Last Week!
MONDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = BARREL JEANS ➕ KNITTED TEE➕ BARN COAT ➕ SANDALS
outfit links, Orvis barn coat, bought preloved via eBay
Outfit Details…. It was a bit of a shock returning from Byron Bay to Melbourne’s sudden drop in temperature—I can’t say I was thrilled about it! But there was one silver lining: it was finally cold enough to wear my thrifted Orvis barn coat. I have to admit, I was totally influenced by Natalie Borton and immediately searched “Orvis barn coat” on eBay—this beauty popped up, and I couldn’t resist! I styled it on Monday with my go-to Everlane barrel jeans and a knitted tee for some added texture. And since it’s still technically summer, I balanced things out with my Assembly Label sandals—coats and sandals are one of my favorite combos!
TUESDAY
Day look
FORMULA = SILK PANTS➕LINEN SHIRT ➕ DENIM JACKET ➕ SANDALS
Outfit Details…after writing my Substack on What I Packed (& Wore) for 6 Days in Byron, I realised I was a little gutted not to have worn my Arket silk pants. So last week, I made a point to style them—and a day in the office felt like the perfect occasion! I’d previously paired them with white, but this time, I was keen to try them with black, and I think it worked well—what do you think? I wore my oversized linen shirt (a staple since my postpartum days with my third baby), layered on my Levi’s denim jacket for a bit of warmth, and—true to form—insisted on wearing sandals. For a little added texture, I finished the look with my chocolate brown suede tote.
TUESDAY
Date night look
OUTFIT FORMULA = SILK PANTS➕CREW NECK SWEATER ➕ LEOPARD FLATS
Outfit Details: Since my parents are visiting from the UK and staying with us, my husband and I have been making the most of our live-in babysitters. So, we headed to our local cinema to see A Complete Unknown, the new Bob Dylan film—it’s brilliant, by the way, even if you’re not a Dylan fan!
Outfit-wise, I couldn’t be bothered to change completely, so I kept my silk pants on, swapped my shirt for a crew neck sweater, and slipped into my Sezane leopard print flats. I didn’t change my bag either—I needed something big enough to sneak in a box of Reese’s Minis!
WEDNESDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = WHITE MAXI POPLIN SKIRT ➕ CARDIGAN ➕ LEOPARD FLATS
Outfit Details…I was inspired to wear this outfit after pinning a similar look on Pinterest recently, and with the cooler weather, Wednesday in the office felt like the perfect time to give it a go. I’ve been loving my white maxi poplin skirt this summer, usually styling it with cropped tops, but I’ve been dying to try it with a knit—so I paired it with my Sézane Gaspard cardigan, and I loved the result. To keep it from feeling too wintery, I left a couple of the top buttons undone and pushed up the sleeves. I finished the look with my Sézane leopard print flats to tie in with the caramel cardi and reached for my suede bag again!
THURSDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = BARREL JEANS ➕ STRIPED CROPPED TEE ➕ SWEATER ➕SANDALS
Outfit Details…I wasn’t feeling 100% on Thursday and had zero motivation to do anything—I could have happily curled up on the sofa all day. But with a full day of work ahead, I dragged myself out of bed and into some clothes, hoping getting dressed would give me a little boost. My outfit choice was purely practical—I wanted something that didn’t require ironing—so I went with my Everlane barrel jeans and striped cropped tee. I ended up feeling cold for most of the day, so I threw on my charcoal crew neck sweater while working from home, along with my well-worn sandals yet again.
FRIDAY
Day look
OUTFIT FORMULA = DENIM SHORTS ➕ LINEN CAMI ➕ DENIM SHORTS ➕ SANDALS
outfit details, Montaigne Paris Ava linen cami top *
Outfit Details…I think this might have been one of my favourite looks from last week—I just love when an outfit comes together effortlessly, feels comfortable, yet still looks put-together. The stone-wash colour of these shorts is a favourite of mine, especially paired with the blue wash of my denim shacket, while the linen cami tied the two pieces together perfectly. For a little added color, this Sézane bag was the ideal accessory for running errands and picking up a parcel from the post office first thing. I also decided to switch things up and wear my rose gold Saltwater sandals, adding a subtle extra shade to the neutral outfit.
FRIDAY
Dinner look
OUTFIT FORMULA = MAXI LINEN DRESS ➕ SANDALS
outfit details, Montaigne Paris Virginie linen maxi dress*
Outfit Details…Friday was my mum’s birthday, so we celebrated at one of our favourite Melbourne spots, Bang Bang at the Rifle Club (seriously, is that not the best name for a restaurant?!). We all took the opportunity to dress up a little, and since it was an absolute scorcher, something light and breezy was a must.
No How fabulous did my mum look in her thrifted £7 M&S dress?! No surprise where I get my love for secondhand shopping!
I opted for my Montaigne Paris linen maxi dress*, which I also wore last week in Byron, but this time I styled it with black accessories—my Hush Puppies sandals* and the most gorgeous little clutch, a gift from my husband after I’d been admiring it every time we stopped by our local café.
SATURDAY
Day look
OUTFIT FORMULA = SHORTS ➕ CROPPED LINEN TOP ➕ SANDALS
outfit links, Republic of Florence Margo crossbody bag*
Outfit Details…the hot weather is definitely back in Melbourne—yay! That called for light, breezy shorts, like the Country Road pair I rediscovered last month and have been loving ever since. I paired them with my black linen cropped top, brown Assembly Label sandals, and a matching tan crossbody bag. It was the perfect hot-weather look for a spot of shopping and a quick coffee stop.
SATURDAY
Beach look
OUTFIT FORMULA = SHORTS ➕SWIMSUIT ➕TEE ➕ THONGS
Outfit Details…we wanted to make the most of the beautiful weather, so we headed down to the beach for the afternoon—absolute perfection! I even managed to get in some reading (currently making my way through Before We Were Innocent by Bella Berman).
I quickly refreshed my morning outfit, swapping into my Hunza G one-piece, throwing on a white tee, and slipping into my Havaiana square-toe thongs. I packed all my beach essentials into my extra-large tote, and I was good to go!
SATURDAY
Late night shopping look
OUTFIT FORMULA = WIDE LEG LINEN PANTS ➕ CROPPED LINEN TOP ➕ SANDALS
outfit links, Republic of Florence Margo crossbody bag*
Outfit Details…I love a day with multiple outfit changes, especially when I can mix and match a few core pieces. On Saturday night, my mum and I headed to Chadstone for some late-night shopping to pick up birthday presents for my little girl—her birthday is next week!
I reached for my Assembly Label black linen crop top again (which I wore in the morning) but this time paired it with the matching Assembly Label black wide-leg linen pants, creating a sleek two-piece look that I absolutely loved. I kept the accessories warm and classic with my tan leather crossbody bag, brown sandals, and simple gold jewellery.
SUNDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = DENIM SHORTS➕ BLOUSE ➕ SANDALS
Outfit details…another hot day on Sunday! After a morning spent trying to clean the house (why does it never stay tidy? Anyone else?), I had to get ready in a hurry and didn’t have much time to plan an outfit. But I had my denim shorts in mind, so I built a simple look from there—pairing them with a floral Sézane blouse I scored in their archive sale a few years ago. I finished the look with my trusty Assembly Label sandals (yes, I’m wearing them again!), making it the perfect outfit for a park hang and an afternoon with friends over lunch.
That’s a wrap on another weekly outfit roundup! Do you have a favourite? Let me know in the comments! I’m torn between Friday’s day look and Tuesday’s silk pants and sweater combo—both felt so me.
