Everything I wore last week | 34
A week of outfits when I wasn’t feeling 100% —leaning on my go-to formulas that never fail: barrel jeans, striped tees, and bomber jackets on repeat.
Hello lovely readers!
How’ve you been? This week started off great, but by Tuesday, I was hit with a gastro bug (ugh!). So, I’m sorry in advance that these outfits aren’t anything groundbreaking, but they were all about practicality and comfort, which was my top priority. One of the main reasons I started documenting my outfits as a 40-year-old working mum of 3 is because, let’s face it, there are days when I’m not bringing my A-game—and that’s totally okay! I hope these real, everyday looks give you some inspo for those days when comfort is key.
Here’s a full recap of the practical outfits I wore last week—let me know if any of them were your favourite!
MONDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = BARREL JEANS ➕ TEE ➕ SWEATER ➕ BARN COAT ➕ SNEAKERS
Outfit Details…. Monday was a WFH day, and you could really feel autumn in the air, so I decided to embrace it with a few layers and some of my favourite fall colours. These black barrel jeans from Everlane are definitely well-loved (so much so that I couldn’t resist picking up a dark blue pair in the sales this week!). They go with pretty much everything, but I think they look best with a simple white tee. It was still a little chilly, so I layered up with my Zulu & Zephyr knitted sweater—love how the oversized look just feels effortlessly chic. Threw on my preloved barn coat, added some gold jewellery, and grabbed my oversized tote bag, and I was all set for the day. Perfect mix of cosy and cute for working from home!
TUESDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = SWEAT PANTS ➕ TEE ➕ CROCS
Outfit Details… Oh man, Tuesday was a rough one! I woke up feeling absolutely awful, thanks to my sweet eldest son, who generously passed on his gastro bug (seriously, is it just me who catches all the kids’ germs?!). It took me until 3pm to finally get out of my PJs, but when I did, I definitely felt a bit better—even if it was just to throw on sweatpants and a cropped striped tee.
Now, here’s the funny part—I recently caved and bought a pair of Crocs (I know, never thought I’d say that!). My kids have been going on about how I needed them for an upcoming camping trip, and when I saw they had a deal for two pairs for $90, I just couldn’t resist. And I’ve got to admit, when they arrived on Tuesday, I was honestly surprised by how comfy they are! I went for the 'linen' colour, and if I’d been leaving the house, they would’ve been the perfect addition to my casual look.
WEDNESDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = WIDE LEG JEANS ➕ KNITTED TEE ➕ BOMBER JACKET ➕ THONGS
Outfit Details…Wednesday was a bit better, but honestly, I would have been totally happy staying in my PJs all day again. However, I had to get up and get ready to take my gorgeous girl to school and send her off for her school camp! I kept things super comfortable and casual with my Arket Cloud wide-leg jeans (definitely one of my best preloved finds!) and paired them with a simple cream knitted tee. The mornings have been chilly before it warms up in the afternoon, so I threw on my khaki bomber jacket (it’s so good to be wearing bomber jackets again!).
In an effort to lift my spirits, I went with one of my go-to outfits for this in-between weather—jeans and thongs! I absolutely love these green square-toed Havaianas, and they worked perfectly with the khaki bomber jacket. A simple, comfy look that made me feel a bit more put-together, even on a slower day.
THURSDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = LINEN PANTS ➕ STRIPED TEE ➕ DENIM SHACKET ➕ SANDAL
Outfit Details…back to work on Thursday, but I kept it easy by working from home. I went straight for my wide-leg black linen pants (elasticated waist—so comfy!). When I’m in a rush or just want to keep things simple, I always fall back on my go-to outfit combos, and linen pants with a striped tee is one of my favorites. There’s just something about a black and monochrome look that instantly feels put together (plus, bonus points for stripes!).
Since it was a little cooler than usual, I layered my denim shacket on top, which I loved because it added some texture and broke up the outfit nicely. I finished off the look with my trusty tan Saltwater sandals, and I was all set for a day back in front of my laptop.
FRIDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = BARREL JEANS ➕ CREW NECK SWEATER ➕ BIRKENSTOCKS
Outfit Details… by Friday, I was feeling more like myself and actually wanted to get dressed. I didn’t plan to go for an all-black look, but somehow it just happened—and honestly, I didn’t mind it! My Everlane barrel jeans made another appearance, and this time I paired them with a cropped tank. It worked well, but when I needed to head out at lunch, I realised it was a little chillier than I expected, so I grabbed the nearest comfy sweater (which happened to be this black crew neck).
To break up the all-black vibe, I added my taupe Birkenstocks and some gold jewellery. I also tried out a new pair of Le Specs sunnies that had just arrived, and I’m obsessed—they were the perfect finishing touch to the all-black look! I absolutely loved this outfit for a day working from home—it was simple, comfortable, and still had that put-together feel.
SATURDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = LEGGINGS ➕ CROPPED STRIPED TEE ➕ SWEATER ➕ BOMBER JACKET ➕ SNEAKERS
Outfit Details…we had to rush out early on Saturday morning for my eldest son’s cricket presentation, so I didn’t have much time to get ready. The rest of the day was packed with running errands (we needed camping gear for an upcoming trip), tidying up the house, and heading to the park and café with the kids, so a comfy, practical outfit was definitely in order!
I’m not usually one for wearing leggings outside of workouts, but on Saturday, I decided to give them a more elevated spin. I absolutely love my Lululemon Align leggings (they totally live up to the hype), and I paired them with a cropped striped tee and New Balance 327’s. Up until this point, it still looked like I was heading to a yoga class, but once I added my grey preloved M&S bomber jacket, it completely transformed the look. To finish it off, I threw a black sweater over my shoulders and grabbed my oversized tote bag—and the whole outfit came together perfectly!
SUNDAY
OUTFIT FORMULA = DENIM SHORTS➕ LINEN VEST ➕ SANDALS
Outfit details…the sun was shining on Sunday, and it was the perfect autumn day. I couldn’t resist taking advantage of the blue skies and managed to shoot some content for an upcoming collab that I’m so excited about (stay tuned!). After that, I headed to the iconic Brighton Beach Boxes with my two boys, which luckily for us, is just down the road.
I went for a laid-back, oversized vibe—wide-leg jeans and a white linen cami that I purposely kept untucked (you wouldn’t believe how hard that was for this millennium mum to pull off!). To add a pop of colour, I threw on my Uniqlo cashmere sweater in a gorgeous earthy green. To complete the “undone” look, I slipped on my square-toe Havaianas again, and added some simple gold jewellery, sunnies, and my oversized tote bag.
And that’s a wrap on this week’s Substack! Thank you so much for reading and following along.
