What I’ve been reading
I love reading, and each year I set a goal on Goodreads to keep myself motivated. If you’re curious about what I’m reading, feel free to check out my Goodreads account!
This month, I’ve been reading a couple of books. First up is How to Stop Time by Matt Haig. I absolutely loved The Midnight Library—such a fantastic read—and this one has that same brilliant storytelling style. Plus, it sneaks in a bit of a history lesson along the way!
I’ve been eager to read Allison Bornstein’s Wear It Well and her revolutionary approach to getting dressed hasn’t disappointed! I’m especially excited to revisit my 3 words to define my style, and this book dives into how to do that in depth, along with so much other great style content.
What I’ve been listening to
OK, this may sound a bit dramatic, but after a friend recommended these episodes of the Feel Better, Live More podcast with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee featuring Dr. Mindy Pelz, I feel like my life has genuinely changed! Ever since I turned 40, it’s felt like I’ve been hit by a bus, with early perimenopause symptoms wreaking havoc, leaving me feeling like a stranger in my own body. These podcasts, though, have equipped me with so much invaluable knowledge about hormone balance, understanding my monthly cycle, and the transformative benefits of fasting. I’m still processing it all, but I finally feel empowered to take action. I can’t recommend these episodes enough to any woman looking to regain control of her health!

What I’ve been pinning
I love Pinterest—it’s one of my favourite places for inspiration on just about anything! Feel free to follow The Julia Style Edit account to check out the boards I’ve curated and to save some of my looks featured on Instagram. Here are two boards I’ve spent some time pinning in October…
Birkenstock Boston’s Edit - inspo for a new purchase!
Katie Holmes Style - she’s one of my favourite style icons - a style muse if you wish! I love absolutely everything she wears!
My top October purchases
#1 | Birkenstock Bostons - Taupe
These were on my spring wish list, and I’ve been eyeing them for a while! After considering how to style them in at least three different ways, I knew they’d be a versatile addition. I went with my true size in the narrow fit, and they fit perfectly. I’ve already worn them a ton since they arrived—they feel like the perfect investment for that slightly undone, casual vibe I love!
#2 | Uniqlo Cashmere Sweater
Another one checked off my wish list! (It’s so helpful for staying focused and intentional with new purchases.) I’d been looking for a lightweight, light-coloured sweater for spring/summer—originally spotted one in Arket, but on a shopping trip with a friend, I found this gem at Uniqlo. It’s 100% cashmere, cold hand-washable (a bonus!), and was such a great price. I sized up one size to get a more relaxed look.
#3 | Merit Balm Bronzer
I was thrilled when my friend
DM’d me to share that Merit is finally shipping to Australia! I’ve been wanting to try this makeup brand for ages. I’ll do a full review of everything I bought in an upcoming Substack, but I couldn’t leave this bronzer off my list of October favorites! I chose the shade ‘Clay,’ and it’s a perfect match—beautifully lightweight, natural, and so easy to apply. Absolutely loving the colour!I hope you enjoyed reading the very first The Monthly EDIT! I’d love to hear your thoughts—leave a comment and let me know! And if you think a friend would enjoy it, feel free to share it with them too!
I love reading your posts Julia! You are so real. I too have been hit by the perimenopause bus and the struggle is real! I do the 18-6 fast on week days which I think is helping, take a ton of vitamin D (did you know that oestrogen helps to activate vitamin D? So as your oestrogen drops, you can become vitamin D deficient. I take 2000IU/ day) but I feel like I need to listen to this podcast to make sense of it all! Thank you for the great recommendation x
Love this monthly round up in one place!
