What I packed (& wore) for a 4-day camping trip
Not my usual getaway packing list, but one filled with comfy, campfire-approved looks.
This packing list is a little different from my usual ones, and truth be told, my outfits weren’t exactly setting the fashion world alight. But in the spirit of sharing real-life outfits, here’s a full rundown of what I wore for a very casual camping trip.
Reluctant Camper
If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d be enjoying camping getaways with my family, I wouldn’t have believed you. I never camped as a child, and to be honest, it never really appealed to me. That all changed during Covid, when we were locked down for 262 days here in Victoria and were desperate to get out and explore some of the beautiful sights our state has to offer. So, we went all in and bought all the camping essentials — including the biggest tent we’ll ever need!
Fast forward 3.5 years, and we were off again this past long weekend (celebrating ANZAC Day), camping with 22 of our wonderful friends and their kids in Warburton, Victoria — just 1.5 hours from Melbourne. We’ve camped here before and absolutely loved the beautiful town and spectacular scenery. It was such a special four days spent with our closest friends — hanging out at the campsite, enjoying river walks, sitting around campfires, and toasting marshmallows.

The Packing Hits & Misses
Over several camping trips, I’ve gotten much better at packing the right clothes and refining my list so I’m not bringing loads of things I don’t end up wearing — there’s definitely not enough room in our car to overpack!
One thing I always find helpful is checking the weather forecast for both day and night before we go. It makes a huge difference in making sure I have the right outfits. For this trip, rain was forecast, so I made sure to pack a warm, waterproof jacket. I also knew I wasn’t going to need anything dressy, so I kept it simple with a selection of basics and lots of mix-and-match layers. It made getting dressed each day so much easier.
The Hits
These were the pieces I reached for again and again — the ones that made camping feel easy, cozy, and even a little bit chic.
Quilted Shacket: A perfect layer worn throughout the day as the temperature changed, making it one of my most worn pieces on the trip.
Graphic sweatshirt: Added warmth and a little personality to my outfits.
Simple layers: Black and white tees, a knitted tee, and a cosy crew neck sweaters were all worn on repeat.
Crocs: This was the first time I packed Crocs for a camping trip, and they turned out to be such a practical addition. They were perfect for slipping on and off around the tent and ideal for quick trips to the bathroom block.
Gum Boots: Easy to slip on, waterproof, and looked good with everything.
PJ Lounge Set: This was a new purchase for this trip, and honestly, it was such a great buy. It kept me warm during the cold nights and was perfect for relaxed mornings outside — I felt comfortable and cosy without looking like I was still in my pyjamas!
The Misses
To be honest, I wore everything I packed except for one item — my PJ-style pants. In hindsight, I probably packed a few too many bottoms, but thankfully these were lightweight and didn’t take up much space in my bag.
Overall, I was really happy with how everything fit and that I still had enough options to mix and match throughout the trip. Next time, I think I might play around a bit more with my tee selection — maybe adding a stripe or a subtle pattern to mix things up a little more.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this packing list edition and that it provides some inspiration for your next trip away. Thanks so much for reading, feel free to share it with a friend who could use a little extra help planning their next camping trip!
Until next time,
