What I packed (& wore) for a week in Torquay
Warm autumn days + ocean breeze = comfy, casual packing essentials.
I absolutely love putting together a packing list for trips away, and last week the family and I headed down the coast to Torquay—about a two-hour drive from Melbourne—to dog-sit our lovely friends’ greyhound, Tom - so here is my full packing list and outfits I wore. Since we’re well into autumn here in Melbourne, I was expecting to need plenty of layers for the crisp mornings and cooler evenings. But the weather had other plans and completely turned it on for us—we ended up enjoying a glorious week by the ocean.
I knew I’d need comfy, casual clothes for the whole week since we’d be exploring the area, spending time at the beach, and just relaxing at home—so I made sure to pack with that in mind. I haven’t always been great at this, but I’m definitely getting a lot better at nailing the right balance!
For my last trip, I used the Indyx app to plan a few outfits ahead of time and found it super helpful—it really helped me avoid overpacking. So I did the same this time around. It’s such a good way to do a quick sense check and make sure I’ve got enough outfits for the entire trip, and that I’ve packed for the right occasions.

The Packing Hits & Misses
Overall, I was pretty happy with my suitcase this trip—I never felt like I had nothing to wear, and I had plenty of mix-and-match options. I’d debated bringing my Converse high-tops, but didn’t end up missing them at all, so that was definitely a packing win!
One thing I’m especially glad I packed was my new grey joggers and matching sweater. Even though I didn’t snap a photo, I ended up changing into this set most evenings—it was so comfy, warm, and perfect for lounging around the house. I also threw in a few athleisure pieces, which came in handy when I spontaneously joined a couple of reformer Pilates classes (so fun!).
As for the misses—there were just a few items I didn’t reach for. In hindsight, I overpacked on bottoms and could’ve swapped one out for a different top that wasn’t a sweater, since the weather turned out warmer than expected.
Didn’t get worn:
Assembly Label Silk Pants – I had planned to wear these on the trip home, but since I was cleaning and packing the car, I didn’t want to risk damaging them.
Ceres Life Shorts – I packed two pairs of shorts but really only needed one, as I mostly reached for jeans or lightweight pants.
Bohemian Traders Mabel Shirt Dress – I brought two dresses, mainly for a winery lunch, but only wore one—the weather was so lovely on Sunday that I opted for my linen maxi dress instead.
Stella Nova Quilted Coat – I wore this on the drive down, but the weather was so mild I didn’t need a heavier layer. A sweater and denim jacket were perfect for the evenings.
Hunza G Swimsuit – I packed it just in case I braved the pool or ocean… but it ended up being way too cold for a swim!

I’ve always been a fan of writing a packing list before I travel—it helps me stay organised and really think through what I’m actually going to wear instead of just throwing random pieces into my suitcase. I used to be known as a chronic over-packer, but in recent years, I’ve gotten much better. That said, I still slip in an extra pair of shoes or an “j…
